Week 2: Friday
On this day in Sociology 403 we learned about Dramaturgical Analysis. Its the image of society. We resemble actors and actresses and play various roles in our lives. Goffman believed that each person in life is more than just one thing in life. For example, me. I play at least 2. I play the mom and wife role. I make sure my kids are taken care of by feeding, bathing and clothing them. But as a wife I make sure I listen and help with the chores. Both are much alike but bring different things to the table. I am also a student in college so when I am there I make sure that I am focused and ready to listen and take in as much knowledge as I can. Another part of this analysis is Social Exchange Paradgim, social interaction is guided by what wach person stands to gain or lose from others (Homes and Blau). I dully believe that is true. We as people only do things to gain something. When someone helps another out they often hope that karma will be god to them. Or when we pay bills, we gain more time with that paid service. Not all things we do though have a good out come. If we were to speak the truth to people I know that a lot of our friendships and jobs wouldn't be. I know personally that when I speak the truth that many sont wanna hear it and turn away mad. I also know personally that by lying you lose even more than friendships and jobs. Something way worse! Trust is a very important thing in life. We are so afraid to be open to others that we dont see how it will push them away even further than if you were to tell them the truth in the first place. It very hard to gain back and in some cases you never do.

Symbolic-Interaction Paradigm- Individual perceptions of reality are variable and changing.
Social Exchange Paradigm- social interaction is guided by what each person stands to gain or lose from others.
Social- Conflict Paradigm- Social inequality, conflict= change.
Without 2 of these I fully believe our society may grow to be better. Without doing things to gain or lose from others and just do it because it was the right thing to do and making every one equal I believe our society could grow and become so much more!

I can help society by being more accepting of change and help create change.
I can hurt society by being selfish
Society can help me by having an open mind on new ways of helping
Society can hurt me by staying traditional and not seeing what we can become as a whole.

Week 2: Tuesday  Today in Sociology 403 we talked more about society and how it functions and how it all started. The topic that caught my eye the most was societies perspectives.  seeing the general from the particular  seeing the familiar  seeing the personal life choices- social contexts  seeing the crisis and marginality  Seeing the general from the particular is like how we pick our significant other and who we hang around. We pick people to be around by what we are comfortable with and who benefits us in different events in life.  Seeing the familiar is how we see what we are familiar with. Week 3: Sept. 14- Methodology  Today in class we learned about the difference in Quantitive and Qualitive. Quantative is a scientific method that deals with numbers for answers. It uses data, survey, analysis, hypothesis, and statements to find out the truth to the unknown. One example is the research to find out if rank in the military plays a roll in the number of harassment in both men and woman. Qualitive is a scientific method finding the answers and is more verbal. It uses a more direct approach and hands on. You go and ask questions face to face. You observe in their environment. The study of Jazz is a perfect example. It was the study of jazz and if it had any influence on a small community. Its uses more of an Ethnography way. That's where there is more field research and seeing things from other peoples view. Sociology 403 Week 1: This week marks a new chapter for me. I got to meet new people and learn more about the world and its many different societies. Like many people, I didn't realize just how important it is to know what is going on in the world and how it all affects us in both positive and negative ways. There are so many people out there that need homes and food and clothing. Not just in my country but all over. Of course many of you knew this. What you didn't know maybe is that many don't have a say in how they live. Here in the U.S. we have a say in how many kids we have, when we have them and with whom we have them with. In other countries that's not the case. In some, woman have 5+ kids before 21. We find ourselves thinking that they should get birth control or practice safe sex but in all reality girls drop out of school once they hit puberty due to not having the proper hygiene products which makes teaching them these things harder.
